CANDLE CARE & SAFETY GUIDE

Follow these tips for the best base candles experience ever!

Candles may smell amazing but they are still open flames, so care must be taken. If you have any questions about your new base candles please get in touch with us!

CANDLE SAFETY
Our candles are a mixture of fragrance oils and wax with an open flame so please take care when burning them. Our lids are made of wood so please don’t put them on while the candle is still burning as this can cause a fire.

It is very important to trim the candles wick before each use to prevent wax pool fires. These can happen when bits of burning wick fall off into the wax pool, so please always trim your wick before use and burn in safe place away from any flammable materials and never ever leave a lit candle unattended. Safety instructions are printed on the bottom of each of our candles, please take the time to read these before use & always use your candle in accordance with the below steps;

Candles may smell amazing but they are still open flames, so care must be taken. If you have any questions about your new base candles please get in touch with us!
  • Always burn your candles in sight and never ever leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep away from children, pets and flammable objects.

BEFORE BURNING

  • Trim the wick to approx 5-6mm before each burn.
  • Place the candle on a level, heat resistant, fireproof surface.
  • Ensure that the wax pool is clear of matches, wick trimmings and other debris such as dust.

AS YOU’RE BURNING

  • Don’t move a burning candle.
  • Do not use if the glass is cracked, chipped or broken in any way.
  • Do not place near an open window, in a drafty area or near a fan or air duct. This can increase the candles oxygen supply or cause the flames to hit the containers edge.
  • Do not burn the candle for less than two hours or more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Stop burning when 1 cm of unmelted wax remains in the bottom of the glass to prevent super heating the candle. We know it seems like a waste, but trust us you don’t want a shattered candle container.

PUTTING OUT

  • Do not use the lid to extinguish the flame as they are made of wood!
  • Never, ever use water to extinguish a candle.
  • Ensure that the candle is completely extinguished before leaving it unattended.
  • Don’t touch the candle until it has completely cooled, wait until the wax is solid.

The aforementioned safety instructions form part of your purchase agreement and must be adhered to for your safety. Base candles accepts no liability for damages associated through the misuse of our candles or failure to follow the above instructions.

WHY TRIM THE WICK?
Trim the wick to approx 5-6mm before each use. This will prevent smoking and carbon nuggets, yuck!

We highly recommend buying a quality wick trimmer to make it super easy, you can grab one from us if you like with your next order. Using scissors works okay but you can end up smearing the carbon throughout your fancy candle or worse, all over your table.

WHY BURN FOR 2-4 HOURS?
We ask that you do not burn for less than 2 hours each time to avoid tunnelling of the wax. Likewise do not burn for more than 4 hours to avoid wick “mushrooming” and increasing the risk of superheating the container which can cause the glass jars to break.

STORAGE
All candles are heat and temperature sensitive. Store your candle out of direct sunlight to avoid discolouration.  Our tin candles are not designed for long-periods of storage as they can discolour over-time due to a reaction with the fragrance oils and the tin itself (they will still smell amazing though).

DON’T EAT YOUR CANDLES
Lastly please don’t eat your new candles. I know they smell delicious but trust me, they are not!
